Franchise Signs – LED’s are Killing Neon

Share

Bigger, better, economical and of course environmentally friendly; these characteristics are the driving forces behind todays’ signage. Marketers capture consumers’ attention through eye-grabbing signs that stand out from their competition while also making it affordable to produce, as well as, supporting this generations’ efforts for environmentally friendly (Go Green) product.

One product that has accomplished this is LED Neon Flex by Green LED Lighting Solutions, LLC. LED Neon Flex is a sophisticated lighting product that uses energy efficient and environment-friendly LEDs in flexible tubing for commercial signs.

Consistency and reliability are two critical elements in all franchise signage. Green LED has accomplished this as they replace traditional glass neon in exterior signs.

Consistency:

Production to delivery time is fast, in most cases fabricators receive their orders in less than seven days. Additionally, Flex products are easy to install, even inexperienced installers can do it successfully, rather than requiring professional technicians to install complicated traditional neon. Lastly, Green LED products are patented; a single manufacturer insures a consist product.

Reliability:

Flex products are dependable: the LED’s have a life span of up to 50,000 hours or more, a PVC jacket with UV inhibitors that protects the LED’s, and comes with a two-year warranty. This smaller, brighter, and more energy-efficient product allows franchisees to spend less money on their signage resulting in more money into their pockets.

  1. There is no question that LED lighting is cheaper, more economical and more environmentally friendly than neon. However, it is hard to say that LED is better than neon. Neon is such a classic representation of “Americana” that it will always stand out. From a marketing prespective, standing out is always a plus. Both have their advantages. Thanks for sharing!

    • Tom Humphries says:

For franchise signs, exposed neon will not be allowed by many landlords or municipalities. So for consistency, Franchises need to adopt a more widely compliant design where LEDs have yet another advantage.

  2. Fantastic advice. Thanks so much. Neon signs have been such a staple of storefronts for the last century, it’s amazing to think that soon they might only exist in antique stores and man caves. It’s not in your article, but do you think that there’s any benefit to using a traditional neon sign as part of a vintage aesthetic? Great info.

    • Tom Humphries says:

Neon has a vintage look, but the cost, complexity, and reliability make it a risky choice for franchises that are deploying to locations across the country. I think flex LED tube lighting will give much of the benefit of the noeon look with less risk. Artists may prefer the look of neon, franchise owners need their signs to work reliably for many years.
